House speaker Calvin Say and Senate President Colleen Hanabusa appointed members to the new Joint Senate-House Investigative Committee of the Bureau of Conveyances. The members of the committee will be (from the House) Rep. Joseph Souki (co-chair), Reps. Sharon Har, Karl Rhoads, James Tokioka and Cynthia Thielen . From the Senate the members will be Senator Jill Tokuda (co-chair), Senators Carol Fukunaga, David Ige, Russell Kokubun, and Mike Gabbard . The new investigative committee will probably focus on management issues that came up during the confirmation hearings for former DLNR Director Peter Young by the Senate Water, Land, Agriculture and Hawaiian Affairs Committee of which I am a member. The investigative committee was created through the passage of a last minute Senate Concurrent Resolution ( SCR 226 ) that I opposed on the last day of session. A committee timetable has yet to be established. This will certainly bring interest to the legislature during the summer and fall interim.
